We unwrap and hang our trees so you can get an all-round view of them to make sure that you have the perfect tree for your space. Once you have chosen your tree we will re-net it and can even carry it to your car if needed. Here is a short guide to help you choose your perfect tree.
Which Tree Should You Choose?
Nordmann Fir
The Nordmann Fir is the most popular Christmas tree sold in Britain. It has a lovely symmetrical shape with strong branches. The needles are shiny, mid-green and soft to touch, making it fun and safe for all members of the family to decorate. The needle retention on a Nordman Fir is excellent and it is available in a large range of sizes, making it a great choice.
Fraser Fir
The Fraser Fir is a lovely pyramid shaped tree with flat, shiny needles in deep green with a frosty underside. It has a great fragrance too! The Fraser's foliage is dense and soft, so great for all the family to decorate. It is a narrow-shaped tree making it ideal where space is limited. The needle retention on a Fraser is excellent and makes it an ideal choice.
Noble Fir
The Noble Fir has clearly defined layers with space in between as the needles turn upward. The needles are a blue-green colour and sometimes appear to have a hint of silver in them. Its stiff branches make it a good tree for heavy ornaments, as well as providing excellent greenery for wreaths and garlands. The Noble Fir emits a distinctive yet mild fir scent that creates a lovely Christmassy atmosphere in your home..
Pot Grown Norway Spruce
The Norway Spruce is what most people think of as the traditional Christmas tree. It has such a unique scent, texture and shape that it will instantly remind you of a traditional Christmas. The Norway Spruce is best suited to outside or colder areas of the home as it does not have as good a needle retention as the Nordmann or Fraser Firs. The needles are mid to dark green and a bit prickly to the touch, but the strong branches make it an ideal tree to decorate.
Pot Grown Blue Spruce
The Blue Spruce has a lovely pyramid shape and icy blue low-drop needles. It is popular due to its unusual and lovely colour.
How Do I Care for my Christmas Tree?
Pot-Grown Christmas Trees
- Pot-Grown Christmas trees are grown in their pots so have a strong root system and are healthy trees. This is different to potted Christmas trees which have been grown in fields then dug up and put into pots. The small roots break off and only a limited amount of soil comes with the larger root system.
- Bring your pot-grown tree indoors as late as possible to keep it cool.
- Try to display your pot-grown tree in a cool room.
- Pot-grown trees prefer to be outside so do not keep them indoors any longer than 2 weeks.
- After Christmas you can plant the tree out in the garden or grow it on in a pot. If you are planting it out it will need very little care, just prune away any dead branches and trim it into your required shape.
- If you plan to keep it in a pot, you can move it into a slightly bigger pot annually until you reach the maximum size that can be moved comfortably.
- Make sure your tree has a fresh clean cut on the bottom.
- Saw off 1-2cm in order to open up the pores of the tree. This enables the tree to take up more water over the coming weeks, keeping it hydrated.
- Store your tree outside until you are ready to decorate it, preferably standing in water.
- Try not to position your tree in a warm spot or next to a radiator. If it has to be close to a radiator, keep it turned down as low as possible.
- Make sure you display your tree into a container that will hold plenty of water.
- MOST IMPORTANT! Keep your tree watered. Check it daily, its amazing how much water your tree will take up, so keep topping it up.
